BLHS seniors participate in first-ever "Signing Day" event
Batesburg-Leesville, SC - On Wednesday, May 16th, history was made at B-L High School as 88 of the 123 graduating seniors took part in an inaugural “Signing Day” event in the school gymnasium. The assembly, which was attended by the BLHS student body, consisted of senior students signing their name on the banner, flag, or pennant of the college, university, trade school, or military branch that they plan to attend following graduation. The University of South Carolina, Clemson University, Erskine College, Presbyterian College, Midlands Technical College, Benedict College, College of Charleston, Arclabs Welding School, and the United States Marine Corps are just a few of the institutions where 2018 BLHS graduates plan to further their education and/or start their careers.
According to Era Roberts, the Assistant Principal of Instruction, the signed flags, pennants and banners will be hung in hallways throughout the main BLHS building. Then, next year’s graduating class will add their names to the paraphernalia of the colleges, universities, trade schools and military branches where they plan to continue their learning. The goal is to make this event an ongoing tradition for B-L High School grads.
