Coroner Fisher’s office says Gaston man perished in wreck Wednesday Afternoon
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - Early Wednesday evening, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s office released the name of the Gaston man who died in a single-vehicle accident in the 1800 block of Saint Matthews Road near Calvary Church Road earlier in the day. Fisher’s release identified him as Arbie Dewayne “Wayne” Taylor, 48, of Gaston. She said that he was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries he sustained in the crash.
According to troopers who were in charge of investigating the accident, Taylor was a passenger in a vehicle that went off the side of the road, struck a culvert, and collided with a tree. The collision was so violent that firefighters had to use extrication equipment to free the cab’s occupants from the vehicle. Fisher’s investigators said that Taylor was not wearing a seatbelt when the incident occurred. The driver and another passenger of the vehicle were transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
