Brigham easily holds on to Lexington County Council District 2
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Incumbent Larry Brigham easily won the race for Lexington County Council District 2 fighting off two challengers. This area includes Batesburg-Leesville, Gilbert, parts of Fairview, and even Samaria and the Ridge. Voters cast 1,564 votes for Brigham while challenger Jeff Sarokas received 799 of the votes, and Frank Townsend pulled in just 541 votes.
Jeff Sarokas is a businessman who has never held office. He works for a company called Low Country Billing as a manager. That company does work for Lexington County’s EMS among others. Frank Townsend, a local small businessman, had served on county council before.
This was a rather quiet race that saw no negative mailers, no sign stealing accusations, and no other evident nasty campaigning. The candidates seemed to be running on the issues with the incumbent Larry Brigham standing behind his record of service to the county. The challengers put up signs, knocked on doors, and did whatever they could to get the message out that it was time for a change. Apparently, after all their work, the voters said they were happy with Brigham and returned him to office for another four year term.
