Cayce DPS suspends search for man thought to be missing

Cayce, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Cayce Department of Public Safety is saying they are suspending their search for a man that was thought to be missing. At approximately 1:00 a.m. Friday morning, the University of South Carolina police were executing a routine traffic stop on the Blossom Street Bridge. At that time, a man was spotted briefly near the bridge railing.

Within seconds, officers lost sight of the man who was believed to have fallen or jumped from the bridge into the Congaree River. The Cayce Department of Public Safety, USC, SLED, the City of Columbia and others worked through the night searching for the potential victim. The search resumed this morning at 7:00 AM and expanded to the I-77 overpass.

The Cayce Department of Public Safety has now suspended the search, after completing a thorough and extensive search. They were unable to find anyone and have had not received a report of a missing person at this time.

If any additional information becomes available, we will continue to keep the public informed.
