Gaston PD takes marijuana, cocaine, and cash off the street during traffic stop
Gaston, SC (Paul Kirby) – Monday afternoon, Captain Brandon Poole of the Gaston Police Department was on routine patrol in the town when he got behind a car that had a license tag that was suspended. He knew of the problem with the tag because he had randomly checked it on his in-car computer. Poole initiated a traffic stop and the driver complied by pulling over. When Captain Poole approached the vehicle, he quickly noticed the smell of marijuana coming from inside its passenger compartment. At that point, he asked the driver to step out, secured him, and began to search the car.
During the search of the vehicle, Poole discovered 461 grams or approximately 1 pound of marijuana, 24 grams of cocaine, and a bottle containing Percocet, an opioid based narcotic that requires a prescription. The suspect also had small plastic baggies and a digital scale in his possession known by Poole to be the type used when dividing drugs into smaller bundles to sell. There was also $2,500 in cash in the vehicle. All of this was taken into custody and booked in as evidence
Gaston officers took the man into custody and have charged him with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, trafficking in cocaine, and possession with the intent to distribute a schedule II narcotic. He has since been identified as Tyrone Mack. He was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center where he is being held on a bond of $30,000.
