Pine Ridge Police Department obtaining warrants for man who fled traffic stop
Pine Ridge, SC (Paul Kirby) – Chief Nicholas Scott of the Pine Ridge Police Department said Wednesday that he is in the process of obtaining warrants for a man who fled on foot this morning after he was stopped in a vehicle he was driving while speeding. Chief Scott said that he was working traffic on Bachman Road when he spotted a vehicle that was travelling over the posted speed limit. When he activated his warning devices, the vehicle stopped but instead of the driver sitting in the car, he jumped out and fled on foot onto the property of the Charwood Country Club.
Other officer responded to assist Chief Scott and they quickly set a perimeter around the area. Chief Scott also turned to social media in hopes that someone might see the fleeing suspect and call the police. Eventually, after searching the vehicle the man fled from, and speaking with a passenger that was in the car at the time of the incident, the police were able to positively identify the driver. At that point, they decided to call off the search and obtain warrants for his arrest.
Chief Scott said that once he’s arrested the driver, he will be charged with speeding, open container, driving under suspension, and failing to stop for a police officers commands. The passenger of the vehicle has already been taken into custody on open warrants from another jurisdiction and having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.
