Lexington police pursuit end with collision and arrest
Lexington, SC (June 23, 2018) On June 22, 2018 at approximately 11:00 p.m., an officer of the Lexington Police Department observed a Dodge Charger traveling on Augusta Road near I-20 with both an equipment and registration violation. While following behind the vehicle, the officer observed the the driver make several unlawful lane changes. When a traffic stop was initiated by the officer, the driver did not stop for the emergency blue lights and siren of the patrol vehicle and instead fled on Augusta Road onto Main Street.
As the pursuit entered into the intersection of West Main Street at Columbia Avenue, the vehicle caused a collision with injuries that involved a total of six vehicles. Three people involved in the collision were transported by EMS to the hospital. Two were released after evaluation and one was admitted into the hospital for continued care.
The driver of the vehicle, who was identified as DeSean McMillian, age 20 of Columbia, South Carolina, fled on foot from the vehicle and was found in the woods by officers with the assistance of the Lexington County Sheriff's Department K-9 Division. DeSean McMillian was placed under arrest and transported to the hospital for possible injuries sustained from the collision.
During a search of the vehicle, officers found approximately one pound of marijuana, $2,100 in cash and a Glock handgun loaded with a 30 round magazine in it.
When DeSean McMillian was released from the hospital, he was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center for booking procedures. He was charged with the following offenses:
- Failure to Stop for Blue Lights Causing Great Bodily Harm
- Hit and Run with Injuries
- Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana
- Resisting Arrest
- Unlawful Carry of a Handgun
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Tag Light Violation
- No Proof of Vehicle Ownership
The passenger of the vehicle, who was identified as Jerome Blake, age 27 of Gaston, South Carolina, was transported to the hospital and later released. He was issued a citation for Simple Possession of Marijuana.
DeSean McMillian is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center with a bond of $217,230.00.
