Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Corner Pantry convenience store in Springdale was held up at gun point Tuesday morning by two bandits wielding a shotgun. The robbery occurred sometime before 5:00 a.m. The pair that closely match the description of the two men who robbed the Pitt Stop in Pelion around midnight Sunday and may also be tied to other armed robberies across the area, fled in a waiting car. Officers from multiple agencies quickly flooded the area that is in proximity to Lexington County, West Columbia, Cayce, and several other small jurisdictions. Officers in all other areas are also being hyper-vigilant in hopes that the duo wouldn’t quickly try to strike again before sunrise.
Police did get somewhat of a description of the getaway vehicle, but we will not run that information without okaying that with investigators first. The description of the men includes some of camouflage and masks that have been worn during the commission of the other crimes. Right now, it is much too early in the investigation for police to definitively say that this robbery is tied to the others even though it would seem that way.
These bandits, if they are the same men, seem to be fearless by continuing to strike with regularity across the area in a short amount of time. Law enforcement officers are on high alert and fearful that men who are sticking shotguns at store clerks may eventually escalate their crimes to another level. It is believed that short of catching these criminals in the act or just as they are fleeing, one of the best possibilities of catching them is to have someone tip officers about who this is.
