Cayce DPS recovers man's body from Congaree River
Cayce, SC - The Cayce Department of Public Safety has recovered a man's body from the Congaree River. Earlier Wednesday, the department was notified of a possible body in the Congaree River at 2:03 PM. Officers, investigators, and fire personnel responded to an area approximate 200 yards downstream from the Blossom Street Bridge.
Cayce DPS deployed Swift Water Rescue Technicians into the river and the body of a unidentified male was recovered from the water. A section of the Cayce Riverwalk was closed for approximately 2 hours due to its close proximity with the location of the body. The Lexington County Coroner’s Office has responded to the scene to assist with the investigation and determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
According to the City of Cayce, the Cayce Riverwalk is fully staffed with 2 Park Rangers and 2 Public Safety Officers during daylight hours. The park is closed at night. The Riverwalk is and remains a safe place to exercise, relax or just enjoy the beauty of the Riverwalk.
Cayce DPS and the Lexington Coroner’s Office are no longer on scene but are continuing to investigate. The Coroner’s Office will release further information regarding the victim’s identity after next of kin notification.
