Nasty weather postpones Lexington County Blowfish’ game vs Savannah Bananas
Fish will play pair of seven inning contests against Savannah Saturday
Lexington, SC (James Bowers) - “Rain is a four-letter word,” said a bummed Bill Shanahan after some heavy storms forced the Lexington County Blowfish owner to postpone Tuesday night’s game against the Savanah Bananas. The three-decade baseball administration veteran accepts an occasional rainout as a part of the game nobody likes. The Savannah-Lexington County contest was far from the first weather-delayed game Shanahan has presided over during his long career overseeing ballclubs.
The game was slated for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. Darkening clouds and a steady drizzle began to surround the ballpark during the leadup to the originally planned start time, leaving most in the stadium doubtful that the game would begin as scheduled. Blowfish brass then pushed the game back to 7:30 p.m. in the hopes that the weather would clear; It only got worse. Team officials invited fans inside the Stadium Club to seek shelter as rains intensified and the skies became even more ominous. After a look at the radar revealed the downpour would continue for the better part of three hours, Shanahan conceded the evening to mother nature. The “Fish and ‘Nanners will instead play a doubleheader at Lexington County Ball Stadium on Saturday, June 30. The first of those games is also set for a 7 p.m. opening pitch, and each contest will be seven innings in duration.
Fans may not have to wait so long to see their beloved Blowfish in action as Lexington County has a home game on Wednesday against the Florence RedWolves, weather permitting. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. though it should be noted that with a 30% chance of rain in the forecast, another postponement is not off the table.
Those who bought tickets to the Tuesday game may redeem them for “comparable” (as close as possible to the original) seats at a future Blowfish home game. For more information, check www.goblowfishbaseball.com.
