Brush fire closes Muddy Springs Road for several hours Tuesday afternoon
(Red Bank, SC) – The Lexington County’s Fire Service and the South Carolina Forestry Commission responded to a woods fire in the 200 Block of Muddy Springs Road Tuesday. The fire, which was reported sometime after 2:00 p.m., consumed a large area and it took several hours to bring under control.
During the height of the fire, deputies with the sheriff’s department blocked Muddy Springs Road because much of the equipment committed to the fire was actually staged in the road. Once the SC Forestry Commission arrived, they used their tractor to cut a break around the fire containing it.
Equipment began to be released from the fire around 4:00 p.m. The fire service did have one person that suffered heat exhaustion on the scene and was treated by EMS. They have not said what caused the fire.
