The Lexington County Coroner’s Office announces funeral service for veterans
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) The Lexington County Coroner’s Office is once again in the process of coordinating funeral services for four veterans of our armed services whose remains have not been claimed. These funerals are very important to Coroner Margaret Fisher and she has personally taken on the task of coordinating and arranging for these veterans to be honored in death as they were when they served in life. She has been assisted in these plans by various veteran’s groups in the past.
Those veterans to be memorialized now include U.S. Marine Corp Cpl. Robert L. Young, 58, who died in Lexington County. His funeral service, with military honors, will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The unclaimed cremated remains of Cpl. Young and three others will be laid to rest by the American Legion Post 193 of Chapin, ensuring that they receive the posthumous respect earned through service and sacrifice to our nation. His remains will be escorted by members of the Patriot Guard from the Chapin Town Hall to Fort Jackson National Cemetery beginning at 9:20 a.m. on Friday.
Coroner Margaret Fisher encourages the public to attend and assist in honoring these individuals.
