Car crashes into pond in Lexington; fate of occupants unclear

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – A car crashed into a pond at 717 Park Road in Lexington Sunday evening. Emergency services were dispatched at 6:59 p.m. and fire service officials arrived on the scene very quickly. The Lexington fire station is on Park Road, a short distance from the scene of the accident. This address is close to Garden Arbor Lane where a large pond sits close to the road’s edge. Crews from Lexington County’s fire service, EMS, the sheriff’s department, and the SCHP responded.

When the fire service’s battalion one, who is headquartered out of the Lexington station, arrived at the wreck, he reported that there was one person out of the car and CPR was in progress. The car was in the water and it was believed that at least one other person may have been trapped in the vehicle. This has not been confirmed independently by emergency officials. After being on the scene for an extended period, the chief said that they had switched from a rescue to a recovery operation. He also asked that a wrecker respond to remove the vehicle from the water. There were many emergency vehicles along Park Road during the incident and motorists in the area were asked to find an alternate route.

We have requested more information from emergency officials. We will update this story as we know more.
