Lexington Medical Center welcomes four new physicians to network of care

West Columbia, SC - Lexington Medical Center is proud to welcome Ronald F. Pendleton, DO, FAAFP, Javier E. Carles, MD, Edward J. Jakubs, MD, and Richard C. Webb, MD, FACS, to the hospital’s network of care.

Dr. Pendleton will work at Harbison Medical Associates, a Lexington Medical Center physician practice.

A graduate of Salem State University in Salem, Massachusetts, Dr. Pendleton, earned his doctorate of osteopathic medicine from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York. He then completed his family medicine residency at Martin Army Community Hospital in Fort Benning, Georgia. During his residency, Dr. Pendleton received the U.S. Army Achievement Medal and the U.S. Army Commendation Medal.

Dr. Pendleton most recently treated patients of all ages and provided acute and chronic disease management at Family Medicine Centers of South Carolina in Columbia. He has more than 20 years of experience providing comprehensive family medical care. An American Board of Family Medicine Diplomate, Dr. Pendleton is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Osteopathic Association and the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians. He is also a National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners Diplomate.

Dr. Pendleton joins the board-certified physicians and nurse practitioners at Harbison Medical Associates to provide comprehensive care to families in the Irmo area. In addition to routine well and sick visits, the practice offers X-ray services, in-office laboratory services, echocardiograms, 24-hour heart monitoring and respiratory procedures.

Dr. Carles will work at Chapin Family Practice, a Lexington Medical Center physician practice.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina in Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Dr. Carles earned his medical degree from the USC School of Medicine in Columbia. He then completed a family medicine residency at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.

Dr. Carles is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and has more than 15 years of experience providing comprehensive care to patients of all ages. With specialized training in wound care and hyperbarics, he most recently cared for patients at Laurens Family Medicine in Laurens, South Carolina, and worked for MinuteClinic®. He has also served as director of Hospice of South Carolina and as an assistant professor of family medicine at USC.

Dr. Carles proudly joins highly skilled physicians, nurse practitioners and staff at Chapin Family Practice. The practice has served families in its community for more than 35 years by providing comprehensive care for patients of all ages.

Dr. Jakubs will work at Southern Surgical Group, a Lexington Medical Center physician practice.

A graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Dr. Jakubs earned his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus. He then completed a general surgery internship at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, and a general surgery residency at Indiana University – Purdue University in Indianapolis, Indiana. After his residency, he completed a colon and rectal surgery fellowship at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Jakubs is certified by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He is also a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the South Carolina Medical Association. Dr. Jakubs most recently worked in private practice in Aiken, South Carolina, specializing in the medical and surgical management of conditions affecting the colon, rectum and anus. In addition to caring for patients in private practice, he performed general surgeries for Aiken Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Jakubs joins the highly skilled physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners at Southern Surgical Group. Dedicated to providing comprehensive, continuous care to patients, the practice uses the latest advanced technology to offer a variety of surgical services, including general, vascular, endovascular, colorectal, laparoscopic and thoracic procedures, to help patients achieve the best possible outcomes.

Dr. Webb will work at Lexington Surgical Associates, a Lexington Medical Center physician practice.

A summa cum laude graduate of Wofford College in Spartanburg, Dr. Webb earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He then completed his surgical internship and residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. During his residency, he also completed a research internship at the National Institutes of Health Surgery Branch in Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr. Webb is board certified and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He served as a general surgeon with the 8th Forward Surgical Team, Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force inOperation Enduring Freedom, earning the Combat Medical Badge for providing surgical care while being engaged by the enemy. He then served as a general surgeon with the 628th FST in Operation Freedom Sentinel. He most recently worked as a staff general surgeon at Winn Army Community Hospital in Fort Stewart, Georgia, and in Columbia.

Dr. Webb joins the board-certified physicians and highly skilled staff at Lexington Surgical Associates to provide routine and highly complex general, vascular, thoracic, breast and colorectal surgical procedures. The practice combines surgical expertise and state-of-the-art technology with compassionate care at three convenient locations in the Midlands.
