Fire damages Mama’s Place on Edmund Highway in Pelion

Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) – A fire damaged the Mama’s Place store at 8005 Edmund Highway in Pelion Saturday night. Mama’s Place is a discount store that sold many items and has held auctions there on Friday nights. It is a large metal building that sits back off the road and many wouldn’t even notice it if not for the sign pointing you to its drive.

According to Harrison Cahill, spokesman for Lexington County, the county’s 911 center received notice of the fire at 10:10 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they found light smoke coming from the building. Crews were able to quickly control the fire, but it still did an estimated $15,000 in damage to the business.

Cahill said that in total, the fire service had 19 personnel on scene that arrived on 11 various units. There was also an EMS unit on the scene from Lexington County as a precaution. Cahill said that there were no injuries as a result of the fire. The actual cause of the fire hasn’t been released.
