Leesville, SC (Paul Kirby) – A garage in the yard of a home burned down Sunday evening requiring a number of water tankers respond to supply firefighters before it could be put out. The fire was on Saber Dr. which runs off Augusta Hwy. just east of the town of Leesville.
One of Leesville’s volunteer firefighters arrived on scene first and reported that the detached garage was fully involved in fire. He was able to direct the first arriving apparatus into place and help initiate the fire attack. As more equipment and manpower arrived on the scene, it became obvious that the amount of water that the fire attack was requiring exceeded what was on the equipment on scene or enroute. Additional tanker trucks were requested and those were dispatched. A fire hydrant at Windmill Rd. and Augusta Hwy. was set up for the purpose of refilling the tankers. Eventually, the firefighters were able to bring the fire under control.
Crews stayed on scene making sure that the last of the embers had been doused and the fire was completely out for some time after the fire was pronounced under control. The property was turned back over to its owner a few minutes after 8:00 p.m.
