Sheriff’s investigators have person of interest in custody in Sandspur shooting

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Investigators with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department have taken a person of interest into custody overnight they say is potentially connected to the fatal shooting on Sandspur Rd. near Pelion. As of early Tuesday morning, they had not identified that person or the victims.

The information that has been released in this case has been very limited at this point. We do know that sometime between 5 and 6:00 p.m. Monday, Lexington County EMS units, the fire service, and deputies were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Sandspur Road for a reported shooting. When they arrived, they found three people had been shot. One was dead and two were injured. Within minutes of the surviving victims speaking with some of the first arriving deputies, an active search began for a suspect. As heavy rains fell across the area, crime scene investigators and personnel from the Lexington County Coroner’s Office stayed on the scene for hours collecting and processing evidence.

As is the case with these types of incidents, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has the responsibility of notifying the general public of the deceased’s name once she has made all family notifications. She will also release the results of the autopsy, a formality really since it would seem obvious what the cause of death was in the case of a violent shooting such as this. The sheriff’s department will release the name of any suspect or suspects once charges have been formally made and arrest warrants are in hand.

It would appear as if investigators are fairly certain they have their shooter in custody. Via Twitter overnight, the department’s public information officer said that deputies are not actively searching for a suspect at this time.
