Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) – The community has shown a great deal of interest in the disposition of the Sandspur Road shootings that took place on Monday, July 20th just west of the town of Pelion. One rainy night, shots rang out in a home that is back off the paved road in a wooded area. Deputies arrived to find three people shot. One person was dead, one was gravely injured, and another had less serious gunshot wounds.
Soon, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher had identified the dead victim of the shooting as Aaron Matthew Peterson, 38, of Pelion. She said that Peterson had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene at the home in the 300 block of Sandspur Road.
Shortly after they began their investigation into what transpired in the home, Captain Adam Myrick, spokesman for the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, released a statement. In which he said, ““We've located a person of interest potentially connected to the fatal shooting on Sandspur Rd. Deputies are not actively searching for a suspect at this time.” As of Monday, August 6, 2018, at the request of the public, The Lexington Ledger’s staff asked for an update on the investigation. Captain Myrick said that at this point, the department has nothing more to add to that statement.
As always, the department releases information as quickly and as in-depth as possible without it in any way jeopardizing their investigation. They also release information if they feel the public is in danger and releasing the information will add some additional level of safety for the community. At this juncture, it appears as if they have decided that the best course of action is to continue their investigation and see where it leads. They will update the public through the use of the media and their social media platforms as soon as they have more information that can be provided safely.
