Midland Minor’s bring home DYB World Series pennant again!
Pine Ride, SC (Steve Knight) - Thursday evening, the Midland Minors All Stars completed their journey to becoming the 2018 AAA DYB World Series Champions defeating North Carolina by a score of 4-3. During their entire run in the postseason, Midland was only defeated one time and that loss came in the World Series. During this run, Midland outscored their opponents by a count of 228-24!
According to Steve Knight, President of the Midland Dixie Youth Organization, what makes this even more special are the coaches, Matt Hornsby, Shawn Bennett, and Lester Sharpe. Not only is this their 2nd World Series Championship in 3 years, but it is the amount of time and dedication that they put in to making these young men better baseball players, and more importantly, better young men outside of the lines and off the field.
Knight said in his written statement to the press, players and their guardians late Thursday, “Words cannot even begin to adequately describe how proud we are as a community, and as a ballpark of this entire team. I want to thank the players, coaches, but also the parents. The dedication that they have put in to having these young men reach their full potential is amazing.”
This is the 6th World Series Championship for Midland and their 3rd in 3 years. Knight said, “We say Midland Pride all day long, but what most people do not understand is that it’s not just a slogan, it is truly our way of life in our community. We take pride in everything we have, and we are so very proud to bring this title back to Town of Pine Ridge! We truly are blessed in District 4 and have had amazing support from our neighbors in our district. Pineview DYB, CWC, Blythewood, Lexington and Gaston have been tremendous in rooting our kids on. That’s what makes our district so great. We are family.”
Knight went on to thank District Director LaDonna Miller - Marshall for her support, as well as state director, Mr. Paul McCulloch. Knight said that they all have been amazing in their roles to support not only the district, but the entire State of South Carolina’s DYB program.
Knight said in closing, “I am extremely blessed. The tears flowed hard and often after the third out. Moments like this hit home hard and makes you realize that this is why we sacrifice so much of our time for these kids. The memories that were made will last a lifetime and it makes all the long hours well worth it. There is nothing better than to see a young athlete succeed and realize that dreams do come true. We do not believe in luck. Luck is when preparation meets opportunity, and we capitalized on it.”
The teams were received back in Pine Ridge on Friday night with a large crowd that gathered to meet the triumphant victors. Plans are being made to try to have them on Good Morning Lexington County soon.
