Lexington Two set to open several signature projects as students return this year

WEST COLUMBIA, SC -- Lexington Two’s $225 million construction plan is in its final phase, with two centerpiece school projects opening this fall.

Riverbank, the district’s newest elementary, combines the former Pineview and BC Grammar No. 1 schools into a single facility at 160 Cougar Drive, West Columbia. The school, with enrollment of just under 1,100, will open for the first day of classes on Monday, August 20.

The Lexington Two Innovation Center, or L2IC, will boost offerings for high schoolers with dual enrollment and Advanced Placement courses as well as a variety of career and technology programs for career and college readiness. The center, at 509 Bulldog Blvd., Cayce, is expected to open later this fall. Classes will meet at the former Taylor Elementary on Ann Lane, about three blocks away, until the new center opens.

Meanwhile, two renovated Lexington Two schools in West Columbia also will open their doors for the first day of classes in August. Springdale Elementary, 361 Wattling Ave., includes roughly 15,000 feet of additional space, while the fine arts magnet Saluda River Academy for the Arts, 1520 Duke St., offers 9,000 feet of new space, including new performance areas.

Renovations continue at some other Lexington Two schools, including Fulmer Middle and Brookland-Cayce High. A new arena under construction at the high school is expected to open in early 2019.

The work at Lexington Two schools is part of a package of school improvements approved by voters in 2014.
