County coroner says no foul play suspected after body pulled from Irmo pond

Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said late yesterday that she suspects no foul play after divers from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department recovered a body from a pond in an Irmo community Sunday afternoon. They were diving there at the request of the Irmo Police Department after someone notified them of the man’s body in the water in the Carmel Commons sub-division.

Fisher said in her statement that an autopsy of the man’s body has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 28, 2018, but indicated there is no preliminary reason to think that there was some act of violence or foul play involved. She also has identified Tao Gao, 42, of Irmo as the individual who was found.

Gao’s body was pulled from the water of a pond in the 100 block of Pale Ivy Lane at approximately 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. This is in a subdivision close to the Harbison campus of Midland’s Technical College, Columbia Avenue, and Lake Murray Boulevard.

The Irmo Police Department is continuing to investigate this death
