Sheriff’s investigators looking into circumstances of shooting at Riverbend
West Columbia, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating another shooting that happened off Riverbend Drive Thursday night. The portion of Riverbend Drive where this incident took place, and the one that resulted in another man’s death last Friday, is actually in the unincorporated portion of the county, even though it is in close proximity to the City of West Columbia on most sides.
Details regarding this incident are extremely limited at this time,however we do know that shortly after 9:00 p.m. shots rang out and someone called 911 to report this. Multiple deputies, first responders from the West Columbia Fire Department, and equipment and personnel from Lexington County EMS responded. Once law enforcement arrived and secured the scene, the other emergency workers were allowed to proceed. Medical personnel began to immediately provide care to at least one person who had a serious gunshot wound. Within minutes, an ambulance left the scene with its crew in the rear module working on a patient while a firefighter from the West Columbia Fire Department drove. Their destination was the trauma center in Columbia.
The Sheriff’s Department has not released any more information as this case is in its infancy. They have said that they will release more as detectives work and gather information.
