Fire damages home on Boulters Lock Road in Old Friarsgate
Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) – A fire that was reported just before 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon heavily damaged a single-story home at 266 Boulters Lock Road in the Old Friarsgate area of Irmo. Firefighters from the Irmo Fire District were the first to arrive on the scene and Battalion #17, the chief on duty from the IFD, reported that he had smoke showing from the garage and roof-line when he pulled up. The first fire engine and crew were right behind him and they were instructed to pull their hoses and make an attack.
Within 20 minutes, the fire was brought under control; however, some fire crews stayed on the scene until 4:35 p.m., all hot-spots were found, and the fire was completely out. The fire commander requested that the utility company respond to disconnect the electrical service from the home. Richland County EMS was on the scene to make sure that the firefighters were all in good health while fighting the fire in the high outside temperatures.
Irmo’s Battalion Chief said that the Irmo Fire Marshal had not yet determined the cause of the fire, but it appeared to have started in the kitchen or utility area of the home. He expressed appreciation to Columbia-Richland Fire Department and the Lexington County Fire Service for their assistance through their automatic aid agreement.
