Sheriff’s department charges workout-woman who tampered with cars earlier in the week

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Sheriff has charged an 18-year-old female who was caught on a home security video breaking into a motor vehicle. The woman was wearing workout gear at the time she committed the crime.

Detectives said Shaniyah Raven Riley rummaged through the car without the owner’s consent. Investigators said Riley admitted to them she entered the vehicle with the intent to steal items from it. Riley was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center after she was arrested.

All law enforcement agencies in the county are once again stressing the importance of securing your car when you park it anywhere overnight, even if it’s in your drive at home. There has been a rash of these types of cases countywide, and all of them, for the most part, have been crimes of opportunity. In the vast majority of instances where cars have been plundered and people’s personal items have been taken, the cars were unsecure. Make sure that you do not leave personal and valuable items in plain sight and remember that putting your valuable items in your truck to secure them is useless if you have a manual trunk release inside the car and the car is unlocked.
