All state office and schools in Lexington County closed tomorrow

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department has tweeted an update from the SCEMD saying that all Lexington County Schools and state offices will be closed beginning Tuesday because of the approach of Hurricane Florence. This order does not indicate that Lexington County residents are in imminent danger from the storm that is growing in strength.

Because Governor Henry McMaster has ordered the evacuation of our state's coastal areas, our school buses would be pressed into service bringing people from the coast during the evacuation and our school buildings could be used as shelters. The area is also expected to be inundated with traffic as the reversal of the interstates disrupt the usual flow of travel.

Residents are urged to stay calm and take steps to prepare for impending inclement weather. Keep following the Lexington Ledger for more information.
