Pine Ridge town administrator resigns
Pine Ridge, SC (Paul Kirby) – Long-time Pine Ridge Town Administrator Viki Miller resigned tonight during a specially called meeting of the town council. This happened after the council called the meeting to order and immediately voted to go into executive session. After more than an hour and a half behind closed doors closeted with their attorney, the council returned. After the meeting was called back to order, Mayor Robert Wells announced that they as a council had been unable to reach a decision on a personnel matter, therefore they were accepting Miller’s resignation. He had a piece of paper in his hand that he placed on the table in front of him that most in the room took to be her resignation in writing. Miller sat quietly sobbing in the corner until Lieutenant Starkey of the police department got up and got her a paper towel.
It was unclear exactly what the personnel issue was, however it appeared as if the large crowd in attendance had come to protest the firing of the police chief or all of the members of the Pine Ridge Police Department again. That never happened. A line of residents and business leaders came to the podium at the conclusion of the meeting and praised Chief Nicholas Scott, Lt. Starkey, and the entire department for their actions and behavior since Scott took the reins in May. Everyone who spoke had nothing but kind words to say about how the department was running.
