Teen dies in early morning crash

Irmo, SC, (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the individual who died as a result of a vehicle collision early Wednesday morning that occurred on Interstate 26 Westbound near exit 104. The crash happened at approximately 5:20 A.M. on September 19, 2018.

According to Coroner Fisher, Austin William Dugar, 19, of Columbia was pronounced dead at an area hospital due to injuries sustained in the collision. Dugar was travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-26 when the accident occurred. He was presumably attempting to turn around and go in the right direction when he stopped his vehicle in the lanes of travel and was perpendicular to the oncoming vehicles. That’s when he was struck by truck. The other driver was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
