Fire destroys mobile home in South Congaree Wednesday night

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – A mobile home was destroyed by fire near the intersection of Pine Street and Grove Lane in the town of South Congaree Wednesday night. The call came into the county’s 911 center just after 9:00 p.m. bringing equipment and personnel from many county fire stations as well as an EMS crew for stand-by.

Fire fighters arrived on the scene quickly and found a good percentage of the home was already engulfed by flames. They didn’t locate anyone in the home that eventually began to collapse due to the damage and flames and heat were inflicting. They pulled several fire hoses to attack the fire and brought that under control in a short time. The search for the hot-spots and any remaining embers took much longer as the firefighters had to dig through the rubble in order to get to those.

The fire service has deemed the home a total loss. Although there was some speculation as to what started the fire, no official cause has been released as of yet. There were no injuries reported by the county’s fire service or the South Congaree Police Department.
