Town of Chapin proclaims October 28 through November 3rd as Environmental Systems Operators Week
Chapin, SC (Paul Kirby) – At Tuesday night’s Chapin Town Council meeting, the town’s government passed a proclamation making the week of October 28 through November 3rd Environmental Systems Operators Week. Utilities Director Andy Metts was presented the formal document of proclamation by Chapin’s Mayor David Knight to make it all official.
Governor Nikki Haley first set aside a week to honor the men and women who protect our environment by efficiently operating facilities that treat waste water and other possible dangers to our environment in 2016. In her proclamation, the following paragraph was included: The observance of Environmental Systems Operators Week calls attention to the many contributions made by Environmental Systems Operators to our quality of life while raising awareness of the importance of protecting and conserving our natural resources.
Since the operations of the Town of Chapin’s Utilities Department were brought in house, the department and its employees have received multiple awards and recognitions for their good works. Currently, Metts is overseeing the construction of a new plant that will treat the waste water produced by Chapin’s customers before it is discharged into the Broad River. This will drastically reduce the amount of pollution that could get past all safeguards into the river because of the failure of Chapin’s aging system. The plant is scheduled to be completed and on-line sometime next year.
