County coroner identifies man killed crossing I-20 after accident
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has released the name of the young man who died Sunday night after being struck by several vehicles while trying to cross I-20 on foot. This happened on October 7, 2018 just before 8:00 P.M. near mile marker 59. According to Coroner Fisher, Jared Whitman Campbell, 27, of Lexington was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple traumatic injuries.
SCHP troopers say that Whitman had been in another vehicle that had been in an accident, but he wasn’t injured severely in that crash. He got out of the car, crossed the median of I-20, and then was attempting to cross several lanes of traffic when he was struck and killed. No one else received any significant injuries in the wreck.
An investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol is ongoing.
