Is your congregation ready to be safe next Sunday?
Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) – When you attend church next Sunday, you may plan on focusing on praying, singing, shaking hands, and much more. That’s what church looks like for most every week and what we pray happens week after week; praising and thanking your higher power for another week of blessings. The one thing that few of us ever plan for is the problem of violence, some other form of emergency like a fire, or even an active shooter joining us in the pews. What would you do, how would you get out, what steps would you take to keep your family safe? That’s why tonight, October 9, 2018, the Springdale Police Department and Platt Springs United Methodist Church is hosting a seminar called Is Your Church Prepared for an Emergency.
The short seminar, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at the church, will be facilitated by Chief Kevin Cornett of the Springdale PD. He will facilitate discussions and ideas regarding safety within our churches. Discussions will be focused on areas of safety for the faith communities and will include preparation for active assaults.
The church is located at 3215 Platt Springs Road in Springdale. All people and churches of every faith are encouraged to attend in groups to discuss action plans for their congregations. For more information, call the Springdale PD today at (803) 796-3160.
