Coroner Margaret Fisher identifies man involved in fatal collision that shut down South Lake Drive a

Lexington, SC (Angelica Iglesias) - Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher identified the man that died in a collision that shut down South Lake Drive (SC-6) at Interstate 20 earlier today, October 16 as Michael John Callanan, 72, of Lexington.

According to Corporal Cameron Mortenson, Public Information Officer for the Lexington Police Department, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Callanan ran a red light near the 1000 block of South Lake Drive and collided with a 2006 Ford F-150 which was coming off the I-20 ramp and turning left onto South Lake Drive. Callanan was driving a 1964 Ford Falcon and wearing his seat belt.

Callanan was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was heavily entrapped. Once firefighters got the person out, EMS transported them to Richland Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The outbound lanes of South Lake Drive at I-20 were closed and being directed onto I-20 for several hours. Exit 55A on I-20 westbound was also closed as the Lexington Police Department conducted their investigation.

The Lexington Police Department is still investigating this incident.
