Lexington PD dealing with wanted man barricaded in a home

Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) - The Lexington Police Department is currently on a scene in the 200 block of Coventry Drive where a wanted man has barricaded himself in a residence. According to the police, the man is wanted on multiple warrants.

Officers of the Lexington Police Department went to the residence at approximately 3:00 p.m. Wednesday to arrest Matthew Johns, age 28, for warrants of Failure to Stop for Blue Lights, Driving Under Suspension, Reckless Driving, and Leaving the Scene of a Collision. When they arrived, officers spoke to several individuals outside the residence who stated that Johns was inside. When the police attempted to call him inside the residence, they got no response.

A perimeter was set up around the residence and the Crisis Negotiations Team has responded. Negotiators are on currently on the scene and continue to try to make contact with Johns, but he is not responding.

The 100 block of Coventry Drive to Teesdale Court is closed to all traffic. Residents of Rauch Street will be permitted access to their residences. Residents of Coventry will need to access the neighborhood through the Mallard Lakes neighborhood.
