UPDATE: Lexington PD on the scene of a reported shooting on Roberts Street near the Lexington County
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Shortly after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers with the Lexington Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 300 block of Roberts Street near the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. Fire and EMS units were dispatched and an ambulance left that scene enroute to a local hospital with the EMS crew working on the victim and a firefighter driving.
Investigators were just arriving on the scene at about 6:45 p.m. It’s not clear what exactly transpired and detectives will need some time to determine that. Later Wednesday night, Lexington PD tweeted that officers along with K-9 teams and SLED air support were searching the area for a black male, approximately 18 years of age wearing a white t-shirt and red pants. They asked that residents in the area keep their doors locked and to call 9-1-1 if they see anyone that matches this description.
This is the second serious situation that Lexington officers have been dealing with Wednesday. Lexington police and the town’s Crisis Negotiation Team were already communicating with a wanted man who has barricaded himself in a home in the Coventry area of the town. That situation has been going on since approximately 3:00 p.m.
We have asked the Police Department’s spokesperson for more information regarding the shooting. We will update this story as we learn more about what has happened.
