Lexington Police arrest man in Roberts Street shooting
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington police officers have arrested Christian Jeral Williams, age 18, of Gaston in connection with a shooting that occurred Wednesday evening.The arrest was made after a long manhunt that included multiple cooperating agencies, K9’s, and even air support in the form of a helicopter from SLED.
According to Corporal Cameron Mortenson, spokesman for the Lexington Police Department, at approximately 6:20 p.m.Wednesday evening, Lexington officers were dispatched to the Town and Country Apartments on Roberts Street for a reported shooting. Callers advised that the suspect had fled on foot. First arriving officers did find a male victim with gunshot wounds to his upper body. That person was transported by Lexington EMS to a local trauma center with the assistance of the fire service.
During the course of the investigation, Williams was identified as being the suspect in this incident. The Lexington Police Department, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and SLED's Aviation Unit, searched surrounding areas for Williams without finding him. During the search, officers asked residence in the area to lock their homes and be vigilant.
Just before 1:00 a.m. Thursday, officers were dispatched to South Lake Drive near Industrial Blvd. after they received an anonymous tip that Christian Williams may be in the area.They found him a short time later and he was taken into custody without incident.
Williams was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center and served warrants for Assault and Battery – High and Aggravated, Child Endangerment, Discharging a Firearm within Town Limits, and Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Violent Crime.
