Lexington County high school teams have a great Week 9
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County high schools had a great Week 9 as the regular season of the SCHSL season is nearing a close. We had six wins and three losses, although two of the losses were Lexington County on Lexington County action.
The most notable win was the return of Perry Woolbright and the Lexington Wildcats to Cecil Woolbright stadium in Chapin to triumph over the Eagles at a stadium that was named for Perry’s grandfather. The Wildcats pulled that off in a close one that had the Cats on top by a score of 14 – 6 over the Eagles in the end.
The great Cecil Woolbright was head football coach and AD at Chapin in the 1970’s and into the early 80’s. The name Woolbright is synonymous with football in Chapin and all three of the coach’s sons, Marty, Rex, and Rodger played and were standouts themselves. Perry is the son of Marty and it must have been somewhat confusing for the Woolbrights to have to choose to pull for one of their own, Perry’s Wildcats from the WRONG side of the lake, or the team that wears the blue and plays in a stadium named for their patriarch and the place where they all played.
Here are all the scores from our schools that played last night:
Airport 24 - South Aiken 7
Batesburg-Leesville 36 - Fox Creek 13
Brookland-Cayce 27 - Aiken 13
Gilbert 48 - Edisto 19
Gray Collegiate – Bye Week **

Lexington 14 - Chapin 6
River Bluff 24 - White Knoll 13

** On the bye weeks, the SCHSL shows some of these teams matched against another last night, but when you go to the other team’s schedule on the same site, it shows they were off. We were unable to
find scores for them so we have made the assumption they didn’t play.
