Blown transformer on North Lake Drive causes short evacuation of Lexington Middle School Thursday
Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – A blown transformer on North Lake Drive in front of Lexington Middle school brought power lines down across the highway and caused a short evacuation of the school as a precaution Thursday. Firefighters and police officers rerouted traffic until representatives of the utility company could arrive and repair the line and replace the transformer.
Lexington County School District One tweeted that they had evacuated the building simply as an extra precaution while emergency vehicles were on the campus. Eventually, the students were allowed to return to class even though the power was still out for a short time afterward. Students were never in any danger and the situation was more of a nuisance to motorists than anything else.
Eventually, the road was reopened, and the entire campus was returned to normal operations.
