South Congaree traffic stop nets large quantity of drugs and money, one arrested
South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) - Officers from the South Congaree Police Department seized a large quantity of methamphetamine, heroin, and marijuana, and cash after a recent traffic stop in the town. They have also arrested the man they found in possession of these things.
According to South Congaree Police Chief Josh Shumpert, Daniel Scott Burgess was arrested and charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine (3rd offense or more), Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin (3rd offense or more), and Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana. Additionally, a large sum of cash and drug paraphernalia was seized. Burgess has been booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.
Chief Shumpert said recently that most of the problems they have inside the town are not with the law-abiding residents that call South Congaree home. He said because the town is close to two major interstate highways and Main Street is a thoroughfare to the southern end of the county, a great deal of drugs and a certain criminal element come through the town. He praised his officers for being vigilant and doing a good job in taking the people and dangerous drugs off the streets.
