Springdale PD swears in two officers last week
Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Town of Springdale held a public ceremony at last week’s council meeting to swear in two new police officers. Chief Kevin Cornett, town officials, the public, and the department welcomed officers Beaty and Sharpe as they took their oath of office. They had their badges pinned on by family members. Both had already been sworn-in shortly after being hired. The two have been participating in the department's field training program. Both are set to complete the training this month.
Officer Beaty previously worked for SLED and the Richland County Sheriff's Department prior to coming to Springdale PD. Upon completion of her field training, she will be assigned to Springdale Elementary School as a School Resource Officer.
Officer Sharpe previously worked for Columbia Police Department and Lexington Medical Center Public Safety prior to coming to Springdale PD. Upon completion of his field training, he will be assigned to patrol operations.
The Springdale Police Department posted a message on their social media sites that said they were very excited to have both of these officers working with them. The department, led by Police Chief Kevin Cornett, has done a great deal to expand, develop, and implement new community policing programs. They have also looked at core problems with crime and worked diligently to solve the root problems that are often the cause of these issues. As a result, several portions of the town that were high crime areas have been renovated and are seeing changes in the amount of calls for police service in a positive way.
