Town of Springdale holds tree lighting ceremony with help from Dolphin chorus
Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) – The town of Springdale held its 5th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Monday night. The festivities began at 6 p.m. in the Felton C. Benton Park beside the town hall on Platt Springs Road. The weather was greatly improved over the weekend’s and a large crowd turned out for the event.
Beside the lighting of the town’s official Christmas Tree, there were lots of great things to see and do! The Springdale Elementary School Chorus performed, and Santa Claus made an appearance. There was also an ornament making station, smores, hot chocolate and more.
Since Mayor Michael Bishop was elected and has had the backing of a strong, supportive council, the town has reemphasized community events intended to draw neighbors closer together. They have installed many upgrades in the town including some beautiful decorative lighting that gives Platt Springs Road less of a highway, and more of a Main Street type feel.
The first tree lighting five years ago was on the opposite side of the street from town hall on property owned by a local company. Since then, a beautiful tree has been sourced each year and the ceremony was moved to the newly renovated park next to the town’s offices and police department. The park has been opened up by removing some pine trees, new lighting was installed, and the popular splash pad has had a major renovation. There is also a swing that allows children to play along with an adult in a face-to-face position so that children that might be originally frightened can see their parent or guardian while they enjoy the experience of gliding through the air. Even during he lighting of the tree, the laughter of children could be heard in the background as the little ones who had gotten bored played on the slides behind the podium.
Beside the efforts of Bishop and the council, the town’s staff has been active participants in all of the events the town has undertaken. Police Chief Kevin Cornett and his staff, along with the other employees of the administrative office and Public Works Department, have all been instrumental in making the town more “family friendly.”
Visit the town of Springdale for Christmas or at anytime for a great place to feel as if you are at home. They'll treat you like a neighbor and make you feel like you are part of their family.
