Lexington, SC (Paul Kirby) – A gas line that had been broken on Sunset Boulevard at Old Cherokee Road had shut down Sunset completely Tuesday afternoon. Fire units and a hazardous materials team were dispatched at approximately 3 p.m. and are on the scene from Lexington County. There were also multiple units from the Lexington Police Department assisting as well.
Firefighters had several attack lines off their trucks and were using fogs of water to disperse the leaking gas while they were waiting for representatives from SCE&G to come cut off the leaking gas. As a precaution, a number of businesses had been closed and evacuated. They include Ruby Tuesday’s, Synovus Bank, NTB Tire, Security Federal Bank, First Community Bank, Smashburger, Vitamin Shop, Mattress Firm, Marcos Pizza, and the Office Depot. All of those should be reopened on Wednesday.
Sunset Boulevard remained closed for some time last night as a crew worked to repair the major road and get it completely reopened.
