Gas main break closes road outside of Chapin

Chapin, SC (Angelica Iglesias) - A work crew hit a gas main in the 300 block of Three Oak Lane outside of Chapin Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 1:30 p.m. from Lexington County's Amicks Ferry and Chapin Fire Stations including a specially equipped hazardous materials team. Once, firefighters accessed the scene in the Fairway Oaks neighborhood in Timberlake Plantation they used fire hoses with water to disperse the gas. They also closed the area to prevent anyone from being in danger.

The utility company that owns the gas line was notified and sent a crew to repair the broken line. As of 3:00 p.m. Thursday, the road was still closed.
