Lexington County deputies involved in fatal shooting on Founders Road

Pelion, SC (Paul Kirby) – Lexington County deputies were involved in a shooting last night that killed a man on Founders Road. According to Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon, deputies were originally called to a suicidal suspect at a home. When they arrived, the suicidal suspect had fled.

Sheriff Koon said in a statement last night that K-9 teams from the department began tracking the suspect near the home. When he was located, he pointed a firearm at the deputies and began to fire. They returned fire. The suspect was struck, and Lexington County EMS transported him to a local hospital. They said Saturday morning that the man has died. He has been identified as 55-year-old Ronald Scott Jenkins. The deputies and K-9's were not injured in the encounter.

As is department policy with all officer involved shootings, the SC Law Enforcement Division is investigating the incident.
