Town of South Congaree schedules meeting in hopes more people willing to get involved in their commu

South Congaree, SC (Paul Kirby) – The Town of South Congaree’s government is trying to improve their community in many ways in the future. They’d like to see more activities for children and families, a nicer looking town, and new high-quality businesses that would bring with them services and products that the people would enjoy. These businesses might also provide jobs for people right here in town. Leaders also want to improve the appearance of the town and get residents to act more as a team, taking greater pride in their community while getting to know each other. The problem that South Congaree is facing is much like every other community in Lexington County. There are just a handful of elected leaders, one mayor and four councilmembers, a few full-time employees at the town hall, and often they can feel like the Lone Ranger. A few extra heads and hands would go a long way. The leaders all have jobs or businesses, families, and lots of other commitments and they simply can’t do everything. That’s why they are trying to build Team South Congaree, citizens who care enough to come together, roll up their sleeves, do a little work, make a few suggestions, and really make a difference in the area.

On February 5th at 6:00 p.m., the town is having a big planning meeting, and everyone is invited to attend. During this meeting, you can hear about how South Congaree is growing and what leaders plan to do in order to prepare for that growth. In fact, South Congaree is developing what’s called a comprehensive plan to guide the town toward a brighter future. There’ll even be some time for you to offer your own ideas and suggestions. This is an opportunity to have some input into what South Congaree may be like next year or even ten years from now. You’ll also have an opportunity to put your own God- given talents to work. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer for people of all ages and abilities. Can you serve on some committee, are you a whiz at planning events, maybe your special talent is decorating for the season? There’s definitely a place for you! Are you great promoting social media, are you an architect or builder with an eye for the smallest detail, do you have a green thumb and a knack for growing things; all those skills could make the town a better place to live, work, and play. Maybe you’d just like to help with litter clean-up or the town’s newsletter? You’re just what they’ve been looking for.

Consider putting this meeting on your schedule right now. Come and pack your suggestions and solutions. Don’t come alone, bring a family member, a neighbor, or a friend. Ride together and just talk face-to-face, not keyboard-to-keyboard. You may be a key member of Team South Congaree in the years to come. Remember, the meeting is being held Tuesday, February 5th at 6:00 p.m. It’s being held in the Town Hall at 119 West Berry Rd., West Columbia. You also can call the town hall for more information at (803) 755-2760. They hope to see you there.
