Springdale PD makes arrest after unconscious man found with pistol, drugs, and other items
Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) - Sunday night, police officers with the town of Springdale responded to a call at the Raceway gas station in the 2200 block of Airport Boulevard. The caller said that there was a car there with someone seemingly unconscious in it. When officers and other first responders arrived, they found a 34 year-old man passed out in the driver seat of a vehicle parked at the gas pumps. As the officers attempted to wake the man, they found a pistol in his possession that he was not permitted to carry. Further investigation revealed that the man was also prohibited from possessing any firearms and the pistol was in fact stolen. The police officers also found that he had body armor, methamphetamine, heroin, schedule II narcotics, and marijuana with him. It appeared to the officers, based on the evidence, that he intended to sell some of the drugs.
The man was identified as Brandon Scott, 34, from Columbia. He was transported to a local hospital where he was seen by the medical staff there. After being cleared from the hospital, he was transported to Lexington County Detention Center. He has been charged with unlawfully carrying the firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of body armor by a felon, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of schedule II narcotics, and possession of marijuana.
Officers have not released why the man was armed and had the body armor. It’s not clear if he has even revealed that information to them. It’s possible that the call from someone at the gas station and the quick response of the Springdale officers, could have prevented some tragic event.
