Cayce, SC - Cayce Department of Public Safety officers were alerted to suspicious activity on Haynes Lane Tuesday night. While checking the area, they located a suspicious vehicle with several occupants inside. When officers attempted to make contact with the persons in the vehicle, all of them ran from the car in different directions. One suspect, a 12 year old male, was taken into custody. Further investigation found that the vehicle was recently stolen from a Cayce resident. Cayce DPS officers have reason to believe that these subjects and the vehicle were involved in an undetermined number of incidents involving the theft of property from vehicles in the Cayce area, as well as other areas of the midlands. Some property that is believed to have been stolen has been recovered by the officers.

The Cayce Department of Public Safety is asking for all residents, especially of the Edenwood, Broad Acres, and Frink Street areas to check their vehicles for signs of entry and/or theft. These subjects appeared to be targeting unlocked or unsecured vehicles. If anyone believes that their vehicle was entered into overnight Tuesday night, please notify the Cayce Department of Public Safety as soon as possible so a report can be completed. Due to the possible presence of physical evidence on or within any vehicle that was entered, officers are also asking that residents use care when checking their vehicles so any evidence left behind will not be disturbed or destroyed. If anyone observed any suspicious persons or vehicles last night, please contact Cayce DPS at 803-794-0456 as it may be helpful in their continued investigation.
