Troopers, deputies, and county fire and EMS personnel on fatal car wreck near Samaria

Samaria, SC (Paul Kirby) – Around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, EMS and fire units from Lexington County along with deputies from the Sheriff’s Department, and SC state troopers were dispatched to a vehicle accident in the 5000 block of Fairview Road. This is between Ben Franklin and North Edisto Roads just south of I-20 in a part of the county known as Samaria. When the first emergency units arrived, they immediately accessed the situation and reported that they had someone who had died on the scene as a result of the accident. At that point, Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher’s office was notified, and their staff responded.

Fire Service personnel reported that traffic was already backing up and motorist were attempting to maneuver around the accident when they arrived. They immediately asked for the assistance of law enforcement to deal with that. A fatal collision normally takes longer to investigate than other vehicle accidents. Motorist can expect for traffic to be slowed and congested in that area for some time to come. This area has a tremendous amount of tractor-trailer traffic and that may compound the issues. There is no description of vehicles given, and we do not disclose information that may reveal the victim’s identity until the coroner notifies the family of the decedent. We put these early reports out as a traffic advisory only.

This story will be updated once the Coroner’s Office releases more information.
