Irmo PD has one detained after possible stabbing on Elstow Drive

Irmo, SC (Paul Kirby) – Irmo police officers, assisted by deputies from both Lexington and Richland Counties, have detained a young man they believe stabbed someone on Elstow Road Wednesday morning. They had searched an area between North Woodrow Street, North Royal Tower, Cornerstone Circle, and Friarsgate Boulevard for him before he was found and taken into custody.

Details are very limited at this time however we do know that around 10:00 a.m., police and firefighters along with an ambulance were dispatched to the Elstow home for what was described as a possible stabbing. Police officer quickly arrived on scene and secured it so that the medical personnel could proceed in. At some point, an officer saw a young man in the area jump a fence as if he were fleeing. A K-9 team from Richland County was requested and arrived. Within a matter of minutes, police received a report that a homeowner from a nearby neighborhood had called in and reported that a young black male was seen moving behind her house. He had taken off some sweat pants that appeared to be stained with blood and dropped them. An officer responded to her address and recovered those.

By Wednesday afternoon, Captain Courtney Dennis of the Irmo Police Department said that they had a suspect detained. They were not searching for anyone else and did not believe there was any further danger to the community from this person or in conjunction with this crime.

Although EMS has transported one form the scene, there is currently no patient information available. We will update this story as it develops.
