Transmission business burns Monday night in Batesburg-Leesville

Batesburg-Leesville, SC (Paul Kirby) – Firefighters from both Batesburg-Leesville fire stations and the Lexington County Fire Service battled a fire at E.T. Automatic Transmissions located at 135 North Carolina Avenue in the town of Batesburg-Leesville Monday night. They were assisted by a crew from Lexington County's EMS who stood-by for the firefighter's safety and officers from the town’s police department as the fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze.

According to the department, they had heavy smoke showing from the building on arrival. As they set up for their fire attack, flames could be seen pushing from the roof and thick, black, choking smoke was pouring out of most of the openings of the building. Although firefighters were able to bring the fire under control relatively quickly, the small block building was gutted by the fire. There were also several vehicles inside the shop that were damaged or destroyed by the heat and flames. Crews remained on the scene for some time ensuring the fire was completely out.

No one was injured during the fire and the department has not released the exact cause or origin of the blaze. They also have not said what they believe is an estimated dollar loss due to the fire.
