Quick acting clerk averts robbery of Springdale convenience store

Springdale, SC (Paul Kirby) – A quick thinking clerk’s actions averted another robbery at the Corner Pantry in Springdale early Tuesday morning. This all happened around 3:00 a.m. at the store located at 3280 Platt Springs Road.

According to Springdale Police Chief Kevin Cornett, the clerk who was pulling the late-night shift saw what was quickly recognized as a robber approaching the front of the store. The clerk immediately locked the doors and then called the police. Once the suspect realized he couldn’t gain entry to the store, he fled behind the building. Officers quickly arrived on scene and were searching for the individual in the early morning hours. Cornett did not say what tipped the clerk off to the danger but did say, “The clerk did a good job and hopefully we will be able to identify or find the suspect quickly.”

The same store has been robbed several times over the past 12-months. In at least one of those cases, arrests have been made. The Springdale Police Department was in the early stages of this investigation Tuesday morning, and they will release additional information if they find anything worthwhile on the store’s video system or through other evidence to share. If you know anything about this attempted robbery, contact Crimestoppers at 1-888-Crime SC or on their website at midlandscrimestoppers.com.
